Jemma woke with a red splotch on her left thigh. I didn't think too much of it at first, but I noticed at playgroup that she had more red splotches on her legs. I asked the other moms if they knew what it was and noone had any ideas. It was not bothering Jemma and she had a great time at the playground with her playgroup friends. I really love our group... the kids play together so nicely and the moms get to talk... yippie for adult conversation!! When I gave Jemma a shower after playgroup, I noticed more red splotches on her arm. So, being the overly cautious parent, I made a dr. appt for 3 pm. They did a quick strep test, which came back negative and said that it was probably just a virus expressing itself as red splotches. The doctor said that as long as she wasn't running a fever, she could go to school on Friday. However, she cautioned that she may run a fever, develop more red splotches, etc. She told me to watch her breathing and call if she got worse. Jemma never complained, never ran a fever and by Friday morning was splotch free. I was worried for nothing...
The doctor did call Monday (10/8) to confirm that the send away strep test was negative. She said that there have been several other kids with the same red splotches... I don't like viruses!!!
