My Hero...

I hope that one day Jemma and James will be asked to pick a hero, and I hope that they choose their Daddy. (I think that Jemma would currently pick her Uncle Andy because he is a fireman!)

Last night I was sitting on the loveseat holding James who was crying and not feeling well, Jemma sitting on the sofa watching TV sick with croup, and I was hoping that Jim would get home soon to help. The phone rang and I knew it was Jim by the ring... yippie, my heart sailed... I was sure he was on his way home and phoning to ask if I needed him to pick up anything. Instead I was confused by the sound of a jet engine... my heart sank a little. It sank even more when he said, "We lost a jet and I'm headed out to look for it." I replied, "I love you. Fly safely and find it. We'll see you soon." So many things went through my head... Thank God that my husband is safe... Please let that Pilot be found quickly and please let him be ok... I pray that it is never my husband who is lost... I know that my husband is one of the best that can be there to look for him...

A few short hours later, my husband was home. They found the pilot floating in the ocean and directed the helicopter to his location. The coast guard rescued the pilot who has a few broken bones, but will be ok. I had lots of questions to which my husband provided the answers... my main one was "Do you miss being a rescue swimmer?" He did this as an enlisted sailor years ago... and he said no. Another was, "Why did you need to take a jet out... couldn't the coast guard to it alone?" His answer was that the coast guard could have done it, but it would have taken a lot longer... "Do you know how much water is out there?" he asked me... then followed it with..."We can fly a lot faster and cover a lot more area." Yes, he is right... and he said that it was 11 minutes from the time that they received the call until they were in the jet and off... I'm amazed that they can get on all their gear, travel from their offices to the jet, get the jet prepared and go in 11 minutes AND he managed to give me a quick call too! I'm proud of my hero... my wonderful husband!

I just saw on the news that a pilot went down and was rescued near VA Beach...I immediately thought of you and Jim. I am so thankful that he is alright. He is a hero in my book!
